From August 17 to 20, 2025, in Bogotá (Colombia), the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon (CEAMA) will bring together bishops from across the Pan-Amazon region to reflect, discern, and plan together the pastoral journey of the Church in this region that is so important for humanity. It will be the first major Amazonian episcopal meeting since the 2019 Synod for the Amazon, a historic moment that continues to set the pace for the Church’s mission in the Amazonian territories.
Monsignor Alain René Ransay, bishop of the Diocese of Cayenne (French Guiana), will participate in this meeting with an open and hopeful spirit. “I am very excited to discover how the Amazonian bishops can cooperate to implement Querida Amazonia and the Synod on Synodality,” he said in dialogue with CEAMA.
For him, the meeting in Bogotá is a space to listen, share, and discern, without preconceived ideas, but with a deep willingness to welcome whatever the Spirit inspires. “I bring questions and expectations, but without prejudice,” he affirms, recognizing that the synodal path requires openness, patience, and communion.
Looking back on recent years, Monsignor Ransay feels inspired by the Church’s ability in the Amazon to remain faithful to local cultures and realities, seeking new forms of presence and witness. He sees in this process an opportunity to strengthen episcopal cooperation, promote inculturated pastoral care, and deepen the option for the defense of the Common Home.
The Meeting of Bishops of the Amazon will thus be a milestone in renewing the commitment to life, peoples, and territory, and in taking concrete steps toward the implementation of the dreams of Querida Amazonia, in a spirit of synodality, fraternity, and shared mission.
