Brothers and sisters, dear candidates, voters,
As the municipal and community elections of March 15 and 22, 2026 approach, drawing on the reflection carried out by the diocesan “Justice and Peace” commission, I wish to address all the citizens of our archipelago, to the women and men engaged in political life, as well as to all our compatriots called to vote.
Municipal elections are an important moment in democratic life. They directly concern our daily lives: the development of our communities, solidarity, quality of life, transport, the fight against insecurity, care for the most vulnerable, education, culture and the protection of our environment.
During this electoral campaign period and beyond, I wish to draw everyone’s attention to the recurring social injustices that affect the daily lives of Guadeloupeans. Among these are the lack of water supply in homes, issues related to sanitation, garbage collection, and the often increasingly degraded condition of certain road networks, as well as violence which weakens social life.
An Appeal to Candidates
It is fitting to commend those who have agreed to present themselves for the vote of citizens. Committing oneself to the management of a municipality and/or an agglomeration community requires courage, availability and a deep sense of service.
I encourage you to conduct your campaign in a spirit of respect, truth and responsibility, favouring dialogue rather than divisions. Politics, in its noble sense, is rich in virtues that inspire service for the benefit of the common good.
Ladies and gentlemen, dear candidates, the population is watching you and expects from you concrete, lasting and vital decisions in its favour. You who are seeking office, who aspire to exercise elective functions, you who seek the votes of the electorate, do not forget, once elected, those who have placed their trust in you — and above all remember that the programme on which you have committed yourselves must serve the common good, for particular interests are not compatible with it.
In a context marked by a growing crisis of confidence towards the political class, your desire to place yourselves at the service of our people is admirable. This reality calls you to an even stronger commitment to the sense of the general interest. Our Guadeloupean society expects from you clear perspectives and concrete actions, especially in the long term, so that confidence and hope may be restored.
