Bishop John Persaud of Mandeville is thanking everyone for their prayers and wonderful support as the Diocese faced Hurricane Beryl.
He told The Catholic News July 15 that there has not been significant damage to Church property. He said that while two church roofs and a convent roof were damaged in the Montego Bay Diocese, “it could have been much worse”.
“So, we give thanks, pick up the pieces, and move on,” Bishop Persaud said.
He mentioned that one priest told him the hurricane seemed to target trees, “and this is true as we have lost many trees,” he said.
Messages sent to Bishop Persaud on July 3 were only responded to later, as Bishop Persaud explained, “I am back after Beryl’s visit.” He spent a week in the Montego Bay Diocese. He mentioned that the Diocese was without power, water, and internet service.
Communication, Bishop Persaud noted, has been “sketchy,” and many people are still without power and water.
Despite all that the people have experienced, “we are grateful because we have known the protection of our God.”
“I thank you for your prayers and wonderful support throughout this time.”
