From 8th–10th September 2026, participants from across the Caribbean and beyond gathered virtually for the Antilles Canon Law Society Convention 2026, under the theme:
✨ SYNODALITY AND THE APPLICATION OF JUSTICE – THE PATH FORWARD ✨
Representatives joined the Convention from the Arch/Dioceses of Port of Spain, Georgetown, Kingstown, Helsinki, Castries, Kingston, Bridgetown, Willemstad, St. John’s-Basseterre, Roseau and Paramaribo — demonstrating the rich diversity and shared commitment of the Church across our region. 🌎🙏🏽
Over the three days, participants engaged with important and timely topics, including:
🔹 Reflecting on the Recent Ad Limina Visit: How Synodality Was Experienced, Addressed and How It Applies to the Administrative Processes in the Dioceses of the Antilles — Fr. Don Chambers, General Secretary of the AEC
🔹 The Experience of Lay Persons (in Light of Synodality) While Working at Tribunals of the AEC — Cassandra Leben and Peta-Gay Lee-Bace
🔹 Lay Participation in Ecclesiastical Tribunals and How It Affects Justice and Mercy in the Life of the Church — Dr. Niels Maris, Judge of the Diocese of Rotterdam and Professor at the University of Leuven
🔹 A Jurisprudence: What Impact Can I Have on the Administration of Justice in the Life of the Church and the Humanitas? — Rev. Richard Mills, Deacon of the Diocese of Clifton, Bristol, UK
Through presentations, Q&A sessions and practical exercises, the Convention created space for meaningful reflection on synodality, justice, mercy and the administration of justice in the life of the Church.
