The naming of the Archbishop Charles Dufour Empowerment Centre in honour of Archbishop Emeritus Charles Dufour of Kingston, “is a fitting tribute to a distinguished shepherd whose commitment to service, human development and empowerment of others continues to bear fruit,” said a Catholic Opinion article.
It reported that in recounting his experience, Principal Gavin Atkinson spoke “eloquently and passionately” of the archbishop’s sterling and steadfast support of Chetwood Memorial Primary school during his years of service in Montego Bay and how that support continued long after his retirement. “His testimony reflects a relationship that transcended official responsibilities, demonstrating a genuine concern for people and a willingness to invest in the growth and potential of youth,” the article said.
It highlighted the naming of the centre is therefore “more than a gesture of appreciation”; it is a lasting affirmation of Archbishop Dufour’s enduring influence and belief in the power of empowerment to transform lives and communities.
