Bishop Francis Alleyne OSB of Georgetown, Msgr Terrence Montrose, and Frs Carl Philadelphia, Francis Savarimuthu, Uchenna Joseph Oguejiofor, and Joel Rathna gathered in Paramaribo, Suriname from Saturday, February 22 to Friday 28 to reflect and pray.
In an invited comment to Catholic Media Guyana, Vocations Director Fr Philadelphia stated that the diocesan priests’ retreat is a time for prayer, renewal, and opening themselves to grace by engaging with the Word of God.
“He further noted that, especially in the Jubilee year, it can help deepen their relationship with God, with each other, and with God’s people,” stated a Catholic Standard report.
Additionally, the article said, it serves as an opportunity “to examine their consciences and recharge their sense of purpose as priests in service of the Church in Guyana.”
The retreat was conducted by the General Secretary of the Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC) Fr Don Chambers. Fr Don is a diocesan priest from the Archdiocese of Kingston, Jamaica. Prior to his role as AEC General Secretary, he held many positions, including National Director for Pontifical Mission Societies, Vocation/ Formation Director for the Archdiocese of Kingston, and Director of Priestly Formation and the Pre-Seminary Programme.
