From August 8 to 11, 2023, the First Ordinary Assembly of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon – CEAMA will be held at the Maromba Retreat House of the Archdiocese of Manaus. Bishop Francis Alleyne OSB, Fr Joel Thompson SJ and Ms Marva Joy Hawksworth are currently attending the First Assembly of the Ecclesial Conference of the Amazon – CEAMA in Manaus.
70 participants from the 9 countries of the Amazon Biome: Antilles (Guyana, Suriname, and French Guyana), Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela are in attendance.
In the tradition of the Catholic Church there have been Conferences of Bishops, however, CEAMA is the only Ecclesial Conference whose Assembly will include bishops, lay people, representatives of indigenous peoples, deacons, religious and priests.
The objective of the meeting is to strengthen the identity of this body while working together on pastoral strategies of action for evangelization and integral ecology in Amazonian countries.
