Fraternal visit of Monseignor Philippe GUIOUGOU, new appointed bishop of Basse-Terre and Pointe-à-Pitre Bas-Earth, April 19, 2023
From Friday 21st to Sunday 30th April 2023, Monseigneur Philippe GUIOUGOU, new bishop of the Diocese of Guadeloupe appointed by the Pope on April 3, will visit his new diocese.
This much awaited trip is for our new Pastor, a first official contact, before his scheduled ordination and installation on July 9th.
In the action of grace and the joy of the risen Christ, this 1st coming of my Lord Philippe to Guadeloupe since his appointment, will allow him to appreciate the fervor of God’s people here, happy to finally have his new bishop, who is also a child of the country.
During these 10 days among his people, Monsignor Philippe will preside over several eucharistic celebrations, including the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Guadeloupe, Capesterre Belle-Eau, the Church of Saint-Michel du Raizet and the Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Pointe-à-Pitre. He will meet priests, deacons, clergymen, diocesan staff, secular and similarly speak with local civil authorities.
The new bishop of Guadeloupe will also devote time to his family and loved ones, particularly his 90-year-old mother.

Friday, April 21, 2023 3pm: Arrival of Mgr Philippe GUIOUGOU in Guadeloupe Caribbean Pole from Paris. (Time set aside for his plane landing, then slammed mics with the media in the airport’s small lounge.)

9am-12pm: Work session with Monsignor David Macaire, the apostolic administrator of the diocese (without the press)
12:00: Press conference of Mgr Philippe GUIOUGOU and Mgr David Macaire, at the bishopric of Basse-Terre, at the synod room. (Live broadcast on Radio Massabielle)
